Chester County Prepares to Install Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Chester County is excited to announce that installation has begun for Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations that will be open to the public in many locations across the county. The charging stations will be installed between Summer 2026 and Winter 2027. Level 2 charging stations deliver about 30 miles of range in one hour of charging time for a typical EV. There will be a small fee for using the stations that will cover the cost of the electricity and station management.

ground breaking — Chesco Commissioners and staff from the Chester County Planning Commission joined U.S. Representative Chrissy Houlahan, PennDOT, DVRPC, and West Whiteland Township to break ground in Exton Park for a new Level 2 EV charging station.

Charging stations will be installed at eleven parks, trailheads, and other county facilities, including: Black Rock Sanctuary (Phoenixville), Exton Park (West Whiteland Township), Chester County Library (West Whiteland Township), Nottingham County Park (West Nottingham Township), Struble Trail's Dorlan Mill Rd. Trailhead (East Brandywine Township), Struble Trail's Norwood Rd. Trailhead (East Caln Township), the Pocopson Home (Pocopson Township), Schuylkill River Trail Cromby Trailhead (East Pikeland Township), Schuylkill River Trail Linfield Rd. Trailhead (East Coventry Township), Hibernia Park (W. Caln Township), and Warwick County Park (Warwick Township).

Transportation accounts for over one third of total greenhouse gas emissions in Chester County, and transitioning gas vehicles to electric is a key action to reduce transportation-related pollution and improve air quality. This project will help build out a robust charging network to promote the adoption of electric vehicles. Chester County has the highest rate of electric vehicle adoption in the state, with over 2% of all registered vehicles being fully electric, which amounts to over 11,000 EVs on the roads. This number continues to grow each year, and expanding the charging network will allow more people to make the switch to an electric vehicle.
